Spring 2011
It has been another busy year for Sienna Art Group. We moved from the Worthing Tennis Club to the Heene Centre to make it easier for the group as the parking is available immediately outside – and no stairs!
This year we have explored working in different media, landscapes with a building using Acrylic crayons, charcoal portraits, doors and windows in acrylic paints and drawing man made structures in white ink on dark card.
During the Autumn we tried silk painting and batik, to start us off we had a demonstration evening with Helen who made it look so easy – but she has been working in silk for many years, she passed on many tips and ideas and we had several sessions trying this new way of working.
We welcomed Pat (one of our founder members) to the group when she visited Worthing from her new home in Norfolk. Pat has joined an art group in Norfolk and she shared her recent experiences with ‘Artist Trading Cards’ and we had several sessions making these with great success. Ley exhibited at Arundel Castle just before Christmas, and sold her cards and raised £18 for St. Barnabas Hospice.
Ley has been creating magnificent creatures out of scrap cardboard: a peacock on a plinth, a very happy looking tortoise and her latest a chameleon. What we all want to know is how do you get him to change colour?
Barbara organised a visit to Wakehurst Place to the seed bank which was an ideal opportunity for sketching and photography. Wendy produced some amazing images for those who had to work on the day of the trip.
Tina, Wendy and Marilyn flew south for some sun over the winter but we were glad to hear that they took time to visit exhibitions, take photos and Wendy even had time between sitting in the sun for a life drawing course.
Claire is well established in her beach hut at Splash point and her Mum Jill is now running the Library at Plumpton. Yasmin has joined us this year, she has been producing a book of poems so we have missed her for a few weeks. Good luck with this project.
Beverley has been accepted by the Sussex Sculptors, and will be exhibiting in the Arundel Open House trail in August, – well done Bev, but that means you now have to find a little more time in your busy life!
Rosemary, unfortunately for us, left the group (hopefully only on a temporary basis) to go back to Northbrook to do a life drawing class with Marcus which was of course was on a Wednesday evening. She also took a short Open University course on Molecules and Medicines – wow!
Lilian has had some of her work hung in the Heene Gallery before it unfortunately closed. Lilian passed her Mate’s certificate exam for the canal boats and is organising a photographic/sketching trip for us in the summer along the Chichester canal.
Marj and Bev ran some very successful card making workshops and hopefully can squeeze in a few more into a very busy schedule.
